Q.
When do the soccer seasons take place?
A.
The Fall season generally begins around Labor Day and the Spring season generally begins in early April. Each season is approximately 8 weeks long (the Spring travel league season is generally 10 weeks long).

Q.
What are the various team levels in TYSL?
A.
Recreational teams are Under 4 (U4), Under 5 (U5) Under 6 (U6), Under 8 (U8). These teams play only other TYSL recreational teams at Frasca field on North Street.

Travel teams are part of the Middlesex Youth Soccer League (MYSL), which consists of 19 cities and towns in Middlesex county. Travel teams are generally more competitive than the recreational teams.  Players are required to attend at least one tryout, and if selected, attend two practices a week.  Usually half of the games during the 8 week Fall season and 10 week Spring season are played at Frasca field. The spring season consists of post-season play for the top teams per division in either a MYSL tournament or a state tournament. The following age groups participate in the Middlesex League:
          Fall season:      U10, U12, U14
          Spring season: U10, U12, U14, (also U16, U18, if enough players)

Q.
How do I determine what age group my child will play in?
A.
Age groups are determined based on the age of the child on August 31st by the US Youth Soccer Association.   Tewksbury allows players who are born in the month of August to be placed in the next older age group at the parents's choice, allowing them to play with other children at the same school class level.

Is it possible for my child to play outside their age group?
A.
Players with August birthdays may play up to the next age group at their parents choice.  All other requests to play up or down on rosters outside of the player's eligibility must be submitted to the registrar in writing and approved by the Board.  Age groups are determined based on the age of the child on August 31st in compliance with the US Youth Soccer Association. Players only change age groups in the Fall season, and must stay in the same age group for Fall and Spring seasons.

Q.
Where are the games played?
A.
All U4-U8 recreational games and home games for Travel teams are played at the Frasca Soccer Fields on North Street.  Games are typically played on Friday evening, and Saturdays depending on the division.  There are some exceptions for makeup games which are scheduled based on field and referee availability.

Is it possible to play for more than 1 team?
A.
It is not possible to play for more than 1 Tewksbury team.  Mass Youth Soccer does not allow dual rostering on a Middlesex Travel team and any other Mass Youth Soccer affiliated team in the U16 and older divisions.

Can I request a specific night for my child's practice?
A.
Special requests can be made on the registration form, however, TYSL does not guarantee placement on a specific team or practice time.  Practices are determined by the coaches.  Recreational and Intertown teams practice 1 hour per week while travel teams generally have two 60-90 minute practices per week.  All practices are held at the Frasca Soccer Fields on North Street.

Can I request to be placed on a particular team?
A.
Special requests can be made on the registration form, however, TYSL does not guarantee placement on a specific team or practice time.  Recreational league rosters are selected by league directors with an emphasis on competitive balance.  Travel rosters are selected based on tryout results.  The only exceptions are:
·         Parents will coach their own children
·         Siblings of the same age group will be placed on the same team.

Q.
I'm not sure that I want to play travel soccer.  Should I still try-out?
A.
You should only try-out for travel soccer if you intend to play.  It is very difficult, and sometimes not possible, to replace players on travel rosters if somebody drops out.

Q.
What do I need to register online?
A.

Use the instructions for "First Time Users" on the Registration page.  Parents or legal gaurdians can register themselves with a working email address.  Once you have received a password (emailed to that address) you can register family members for programs offered by TYSL.  Each family member can be associated with up to two registered adults.  Parents who wish to participate as adult volunteers (coaches, referees, board members, etc.) must enter their date of birth.

Q.
If I’ve already purchased a uniform, do I need to buy another one each year?
A.
It depends on the league:
For all Intown Recreation divisions, if you have purchased a reversible uniform, your child will use that for U4 through U8 recreational levels.
Travel league players must buy a new uniform each Fall (or Spring if not playing in the Fall) because uniform style and jersey numbers change.

Q.
My family has just moved to Tewksbury and we'd like to sign up for soccer but have missed the registration deadline.  Are we still subject to the late fees?
A.
Yes.  All players registered after the late fee deadline must pay the late registration fee.  With any registration received after the deadline, there is no guarantee of placement on a team. Mail your registration and payment in as soon as you can before the season starts.  TYSL will post any changes to this rule, done for a specific season, in the TYSL registration information.

Q.
My child will not be able to play in the upcoming season but is registered.
Am I eligible for a refund?
A.
In-town fees may be refunded prior to the first game with written notification and Board approval, if the reason of the refund is for medical or the player moves out of the TYSL district.   The amount refunded will be equal to the registration fee less all TYSL expenses (insurance, field use fees, uniforms etc.). After the first game, no refunds will be provided unless there are extenuating circumstances. Late fees are non-refundable.

Travel Team fees : Are non-refundable after tryouts.  If a parent/guardian has a specific issue in regard with team placement, please forward a letter to the travel director ( ) and CC it to the president of TYSL ( ) for review.  If a refund is granted then the following rules apply:

                                               1. Less all fees paid by TYSL ( ins., uniform, town fees)

                                                               Late fees are non-refundable!!!

To request a refund, contact the registrar by email at or by mail PO Box 655.  Waivers for partial refunds will be considered for soccer injuries, medical issues, or other special circumstances, and granted with TYSL Board approval.
