Tewksbury Youth Soccer Concussion Training Policy
To help ensure the health and safety of young athletes, the Center for Disease Control developed the Heads Up: Concussion in Youth Sports initiative to offer information about concussions to coaches, parents, and athletes involved in youth sports. The Heads Up initiative provides important information on preventing, recognizing, and responding to a concussion.
Effective March 2015, all Tewksbury Youth Soccer coaches must be certified by the start of the season and renewed once a year. The free CDC Concussion Training Course must be completed to finalize the TYSL authorization process. The validity of other certifications will be considered on a case by case basis.
A suspected Head Injury/Concussion should trigger a mandatory secession of all soccer related activities. The TYSL player will not be cleared to play until her doctor or attending physician has given full medical authorization. The resumption order must be in writing and the timetable clearly outlined.
